Give Us Our Daily Bread

A new study by the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy (IATP) has shown high levels of mercury in products containing high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). HFCS can be found in almost everything the U.S. consumes. It’s found in bread, Stove Top Stuffing, Capri-Sun, Coca-Cola, chocolate milk, PowerAde, Kellogg cereal, Lifesavers, Heinz ketchup and so much more. For a detailed list click here.

HFCS is formed by milling corn to yield corn starch, then processing that corn starch to yield corn syrup which is almost entirely glucose, and then adding enzymes which change the glucose into fructose. HFCS is not as easily digested as sucrose and dextrose, and reaches the liver almost entirely intact, imitating insulin and causing the liver to release fatty acids into the bloodstream, which in turn causes the body to build up a resistance to insulin. Therefore HFCS has been linked to diabetes, especially in children. It can also cause massive tooth decay. With all of the problems surrounding High Fructose Corn Syrup why is it the number one sugar replacement in US Foods? Because it’s cheap! The bottom dollar outweighs the health effects.

When a Corporation must spend millions of dollar for a positive advertisement campaign, that should be a red flag to the American people. My advice to concerned consumers….read the labels before buying! Or don’t care, start believing your T.V.! It’s never let you down before…
